Starting a Conversation Part 2

Starting a Conversation | Companion Activity Part 2 reinforces and expands the language, comprehension, and critical thinking skills introduced in the life skills video through more advanced, structured activities. Students describe conversation and social interaction pictures using “say it, see it, and describe it” prompts, generate narratives about starting conversations in different situations, and answer opinion-based questions to strengthen expressive language skills. The resource also includes inferencing and prediction tasks related to conversation starters, social cues, and choosing appropriate topics, as well as multi-step verbal and written direction-following activities with modifiers to strengthen listening and reading comprehension. Additional activities target higher-level language skills, including analogies, multiple-meaning words, semantic relationships, grammar practice with pronouns, irregular past tense verbs, and irregular plural nouns, and figurative language such as idioms, metaphors, and similes. These engaging tasks deepen understanding, strengthen language development, and support confident, appropriate, and successful conversations with others.
